The 7th CESA GAME AWARDS Ceremony was
held at the Tokyo ANA Hotel in Minato-ku,
Tokyo, on October 30, 2003.
In this year's GAME AWARDS 2002-2003, two
separate game titles were selected to receive
the Grand Award, marking the first time
the prize has been jointly awarded since
the establishment of the current award system.
Nine different titles won Awards for Excellence
and a Special Award was presented to another
title. In addition, this year's awards ceremony
also saw the introduction of the Global
Award and the Best Sales Award.
In the GAME AWARDS FUTRE category, which
recognizes qualified pre-release products,
12 titles were chosen to receive an Award
for Excellence.
It was determined that from this occasion
onwards members of the selection committee
would be selected from editors, creators
and distribution representatives from within
the gaming industry, with the aim of further
improving the fair and sound evaluation
of contest entries from various standpoints.

Greetings (Excerpt)
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is
Kudo, and I am the vice chairman of the Computer
Entertainment Supplier's Association. First of all,
I would like to sincerely thank everyone here at
the 7th CESA GAME AWARDS Ceremony today for their
valued participation. We apologize that our chairman,
Mr. Tsujimoto, could not be here in person to attend
the ceremony. So I would like to say a few words
myself on behalf of the Computer Entertainment Supplier's
Association.
This is the 7th occasion of CESA GAME AWARDS, created
to allow the joint assembly of splendid game software
products designed by talented game creators. These
awards were begun with the ultimate aim of further
promoting the public's awareness of the excellence
of modern gaming products as well as supporting
the continued vitalization of the industry itself.
Through a general voting process we aim to give
not only experienced gamers, but also newcomers
to games a better understanding of the quality of
products on offer today.
A full 25 years have passed since the game console
for household use was first invented in Japan. Since
then, various classic games have been produced and
enjoyed by users not only in Japan but all around
the world. As on-line games continue to further
establish themselves, gaming is expected to thrive
even more. We have to make a concentrated effort
to create software products which can entertain
people regardless of nationality or age.
Today's software creators are both enthusiastic
and talented, and I believe that a brighter future
will be created through utilizing the energy from
the dreams and hopes of game users.
This year, all of the entries judged by CESA GAME
AWARDS selection committee were of an extremely
high quality. But unfortunately, no matter how deserving
the all entries may be, only a few of these are
able to receive awards. Those which failed to be
selected by just a narrow margin display as much
creator enthusiasm as the awarded ones. As much
as to also praise the creators of titles which are
unable to receive awards tonight, I ask you to give
a big hand to the following award winners.
Finally, let me express my gratitude on this occasion
to the voters of the CESA GAME AWARDS, the selection
committee members chaired by Dr. Yoro, representatives
present today from the press and relevant industries,
and all others who support the game industry for
their help in the success of today's CESA GAME AWARDS
Ceremony.
I wish to thank you all for your generous assistance
and ask for your continued cooperation and support
of the CESA GAME AWARDS. Thank you. |
