"The
reason why "Spirited Away" and "Harry Potter" have
been box-office hits is because they can be easily
recognized as make-believe stories. These stories
obviously could not have come from the real world.
There is an expression in Japanese which means "a
truth born from a lie". People first enter a fictitious
fake world, but once in that world, they try to
find the truth. This, I believe, is virtual reality.
It is fake or make-believe stories that people are
deeply and peacefully attracted by. This tendency
is true and will continue to be true in the future.
I think such attractiveness and romantic elements
are inherent in games..."
With such closing remarks covering the future of
games, the speaker concluded the awards ceremony.

The CESA GAME AWARDS Executive Committee plans to design
a poster of all the awarded titles to be displayed at
each distribution store from mid-November. In addition,
an Award-Winner label will be attached to the package
of each award-winning product.
The Committee hopes that the utilization of such posters
and product package award labels will increase game users'
awareness of the CESA GAME AWARDS and work as a reference
for users' purchase activities.
It is also hoped that these measures will help promote
the sales of awarded products and the development of game
industry. |
After
the award ceremony, a reception party was held on the
same hotel floor.
In an interim address, Mr. Hideki Sato, vice chairman
of CESA, congratulated and encouraged awarded companies
and creators regarding their future production activities
as leaders of the computer entertainment industry.
The reception party was rounded off in a friendly atmosphere,
where award winners could mingle and chat with one another
and interviews were conducted by the press. |
[Interim Address]
Mr.
Hideki Sato, Vice Chairman,
Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association
First of all, please accept my
sincere congratulations on your awards tonight.
I hope that all of you have enjoyed the events,
earning a healthy respect for one another's efforts
and successes.
We have seen that many of the awarded products this
year reflect an effort to expand the game industry
utilizing new methods and to attract new customers
with new games. Such self-advancement is essential
for the advancement of the industry. I think most
of the participants today are engaged in creative
designing. Please keep in mind that it is creators
such as yourselves who will go on to lead the game
industry and be responsible for the expansion of
the gamer population. I congratulate you on your
successes this year, and wish you luck in your efforts
towards winning again next year. |
