"HEAVY RAIN—Where there is a clash with the heart" is a game with very many steps for each action of the main character.
Just drinking one swig of orange juice requires you to open the refrigerator, take the juice in your hand, shake it, and carefully tip it to pour it in your mouth. But each operation is simple and can be done by anyone.
The objective is not to press the button as instructed, and it is important to impersonate by continuing to perform "daily actions."
This increases the suspense and feeling of participation.
The tension of knocking on a door on the other side of which could be a vicious criminal cannot be produced just by operation at the part.
The graphics and sound are convincing and the scenario continues to advance even if one of the main characters dies.
It presents the story from a new perspective compared to novels, movies, manga, and dramas as well as to other games.
For this reason, the judges almost unanimously selected this title for the Game Designers Award.
How far will love go? To what extent will people allow?
This is a psycho suspense title for adults that questions the instincts and nature of people. The monstrous "Origami Murderer" kidnaps victims and after drowning them 4 days later leaves behind their hands wrapped in origami paper. The four main characters on the case are faced with a rush of selections and decisions.
The concept of a game ending was abandoned and replaced with a multi-ending system, so this single game is provided with various endings including the death of the main characters.
There are more than 20 endings that are arrived at depending on the words selected and the timing.
In addition to the camera work that produced a fusion of image expression and play system only possible with PlayStation®3, the play parts and story are developed as a seamless drama all in real-time 3D.
I was very happy when I learned of the reception of the Game Designers Award. I am honored to received an award in Japan, a country with a rich TV game history, and to have been selected by such extremely talented creators.
Japanese games were what got me interested in video games and form a part of my personal culture, so I am very interested in the feedback from Japan.
HEAVY RAIN uses a unique concept based on a different paradigm, so it was a very difficult title to develop.
I am very happy that it has been commercially successful worldwide. I believe this success is a message that has reached all creators and shows there are also new possibilities for games.
I think it is very wonderful to receive an award in Japan because of its great culture that has given birth to so many very original games.
