Mr. Yoshihiro Maruyama, Chairman, CESA Events
Committee |
(Excerpt)
My name is Maruyama, and I am current chairman of the
Events Committee. Unfortunately, Dr. Yoro, chairman
of CESA GAME AWARDS Selection Committee, is unable to
attend this ceremony in person today. Instead, he has
asked me to read to you this message on his behalf.
(Review by Dr. Takeshi Yoro, Chairman, Selection
Committee)
I very much regret not being able to attend the
8th CESA GAME AWARDS Ceremony today. Please accept
my sincere apologies.
As you all know, the Summer Olympics were held
this year in Athens, the birth place of the modern
Olympics. Thanks to the outstanding achievements
made by the Japanese athletes this year, I suspect
many of you suffered from a lack of adequate sleep
this summer. Each occasion of the Olympic Games
is filled with drama and excitement, and offers
scenes in which we witness the unlimited power
and possibility inherent in human beings. I believe
that video games also possess the power to provide
people with unlimited possibility. I can't help
feeling that game creators, who are striving to
open up new possibilities through continuous toil
and efforts in making novel and creative works,
share the very same passions and energies as Olympic
athletes.
Games are full of dreams and romantic spirits.
In this year's contest, games from a wide spectrum
of genres ranging from old-fashioned games to
on-line games and physical experimental games
were selected as entries to be judged for awards.
Final award selections took into account the results
of the general voting by members of the public.
Games of true quality can be appraised by all.
The fact that many people regardless of their
age were excited and participated in the voting
process proves the strong appeal of games. Through
this, we can perhaps come to understand the true
nature of games.
I hope that everyone attending this ceremony will
continue to create numerous games which are filled
with dreams and romance and provide excitement
for a great many people. As a dedicated game fan
myself, it is my hope that you become more actively
involved in gaming activities, and at the same
time, the CESA GAME AWARDS assist the game industry
to further develop and flourish all the more.
I'd like to congratulate all of this year's award
winners. |
These are the words given by Dr. Yoro.
As
Dr. Yoro has already stated in his comments, this year's
awards once again went to an outstanding selection of
titles. They represent the standard of Japan's game
industry, which have brought excitement to large numbers
of players or caused high levels of anticipation amongst
gaming fans.
I am sure that everyone present at this awards ceremony
today had a chance to observe the awarded titles and
has sensed anew the excellence, delight and boundless
potential of video games. I also hope that all of you
hold a sense of pride at being involved in field which
touches many people's hearts. CESA intends to encourage
those engaged in the game industry, propagate the joy
of game playing among more and more people and contribute
to the development of the computer entertainment industry
through the CESA GAME AWARDS. Thus, I would like to
ask for your continued cooperation and support. Thank
you very much and congratulations on your awards. |

Future
Development of the CESA GAME AWARDS |
|
|
|
The CESA GAME AWARDS Executive Committee plans to design a
poster of all the awarded titles to be displayed at each distribution
store. In addition, an Award-Winner label will be attached
to the package of each award-winning product.
The Committee hops that the utilization of such posters and
product package award labels will increase game users' awareness
of the CESA GAME AWARDS and work as a reference for users'
purchase activities.
It is also hoped that these measures will help promote the
sales of awarded products and develop the game industry. |

After the awards ceremony, a reception party was held on the
same hotel floor.
Award winners mingled and chatted with one another and interviews
were conducted by the press.
Finally, the party was rounded off with a loud round of applause
led by Mr. Sarukawa, vice chairman of CESA. |
