A player experiences various episodes from the viewpoints of three androids, which come into action as if they have their own will. A story diverges, depending on what a player feels from results caused by their own choice and then what action he/she selects. The more selections he/she makes, the more immersion the game and the stronger emotional involvements in characters. The game received the award because many users said they were “impressed” and “shocked.”
Detroit: Become Human, software for PS4®, is a story among human beings and machines (androids) in Detroit in 2038.
Inspector android “Connor” works with the police to solve a case involving deviant androids. “Markus” claims the rights of androids, which are treated as objects and slaves in spite of their abilities equal to or better than human beings. Kara was forced to wander in Detroit to find a home because she saved a daughter who was abused by her father.
Three androids have different circumstances among one another. Where does their stories go? What would happen in the future between human beings and androids? It is you, a player that will determine the future. The grand open scenario adventure. Its destiny depends on your emotions and choices.
Quantic Dream is thrilled and honored to accept this Excellence Award from the Japan Games Awards. Japan has always received our work very positively, but the amazing reception Detroit: Become Human has enjoyed from Japanese fans and media has blown us away.
Detroit was more than a game to us. That is why we were so pleased to see the Japanese community embrace these stories of these androids fighting for their rights, and the game’s deeper message of humanism, empathy, and hope.
This award recognizes our 22-year commitment to making games that are different. Because of the unique relationship we have with our Japanese audience, this award is truly special to us, and we are immensely grateful. Japan and our Japanese fans will always have a very special place in our hearts.
