The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (Abbreviation: CESA, Chair: Yoichi Wada, Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo), which sponsors the Japan Game Awards, is proud to announce that public voting for the Japan Game Awards 2009 "Games of the Year Division" is now open on Monday, April 13. This year, Japan Game Awards will select and honor the industry's leading computer entertainment software products released over the last fiscal year. Voting closes Friday, July 24, 2009.
Please select and vote for the one product you think to be the best from those released in Japan between April 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009.
*This product can be from any platform, such as home video game consoles, portable games, personal computers, mobile telephones, etc.
Votes will be accepted via postcard, Internet (http://awards.cesa.or.jp/) for personal computers, and (http://awards.cesa.or.jp/m/ except AIR-EDGE) by mobile telephone. Voters will be entered into a lottery to win travel vouchers, home video game consoles, award-winning games, admission tickets to TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009, as well as 100 pairs of invitations (total 200 persons) to attend the “Japan Game Awards 2009: Games of the Year Division and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award Ceremony" to be held on the TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009 event stage from 16:00 to 17:15 (planned) on Thursday, September 24.
After the general voting, the Japan Game Awards Selection Committee will judge the entries and select the Grand Award, Award of Excellence, Global Award, and Best Sales Award winners.
Entries are also being accepted for the Amateur Division for original products created by amateurs whether a legal entity, organization, individual, student or general public. Entries will be judged by the Japan Game Awards Selection Committee consisting of professional creators, industry magazine editors, and others to select the winners of the Grand Award, Award of Excellence, and Honorable Mention after passing through the first-stage evaluation (videotape evaluation), second-stage evaluation (test playing evaluation), and final judging session.
A trophy and a prize of 500,000 yen will be awarded to the "Grand Award" winner while "Award for Excellence" winners will each receive 50,000 yen, and "Honorable Mention" winners will each confer a trophy. The closing day for entries is Tuesday, June 30.

Voting for the “Future Division” covering non-released products exhibited at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009 will only be held for the three days of September 24 to 26 at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009. Voters will be entered in a lottery and 200 lucky people will receive the Future Division award-winning software and original goods.
The announcements and awards ceremonies for the awards will be held from Thursday, September 24 on the event stage at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009 in Makuhari Messe and will be attended by many industry representatives and general participants.

【Eligible Titles】
All computer game titles released in Japan between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009. The awards cover all computer entertainment titles including those for home videogame consoles (both stationary and portable), personal computers, and mobile telephones. Japanese language versions of foreign titles in the Japanese market are also included. Titles by non-members of the CESA are also covered. (However, all titles must comply with the CESA Code of Ethics.)

Amateur Division
【Eligible Titles】
All original titles created by amateurs whether a juridical person, organization, or individual. Titles that are winners or current or past entrants in other contests (except the Japan Game Awards 2008 Amateur Division) as well as fully completed titles are also eligible. However, titles also entered in other contests that ban multiple contest entries will be ruled invalid (including products whose copyright has been transferred to the organizers of other contests).
*Persons who receive compensation for creating games whether as a company employee, under contract, freelance, or some other form of work or employment are deemed to be professional game creators and are not eligible for this award. However, titles created while said persons were still amateurs are eligible for the award.

During the final stage the Japan Game Awards Selection Committee will select the winners Grand Award (1 title), Award of Excellence (number unspecified), and Honorable Mention (number unspecified).
