The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award is awarded to an individual or organization that has made an important contribution to the development of the Japanese home videogame industry through a recently created and announced title.

The CESA has been selecting and honoring with awards excellent computer entertainment software since 1996. This system includes evaluation of creators and companies involved in production as well as the titles themselves to contribute to the development of the overall industry and improving awareness of society in the industry. In addition to the division awards for game software, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award to honor individuals that have contributed to the home videogame industry was added last year to expand the scope of the awards to cover both software titles and people.

This year as well, the Japan Game Awards will be held in conjunction with the TOKYO GAME SHOW, which is the largest festival of its kind in the world and from where the latest information on computer entertainment is dispatched to world, to further the development of people in the industry and elevate the motivation of developers while also introducing more people to the magnificence and fun of computer entertainment.
