Mr. Kenzo Tsujimoto, Chairman, Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association

(Excerpt)
Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman. My name is Tsujimoto, and I am current acting chairman of the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association. I would like to sincerely thank you all for your valued participation here at the 8th CESA GAME AWARDS Ceremony. I'd also like to take this opportunity to say a few words on behalf of the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association.

This year's CESA GAME AWARDS Ceremony marks the event's 8th occasion and is one of the major events held by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association. Over the years, these awards have gained a wide recognition, as has our sponsored TOKYO GAME SHOW.

Through these awards, the association aims to deliver the joy and excellence of computer entertainment to more and more people and promote the development of the industry as a whole. At the same time, it is hoped that these awards will help further invigorate production activities within the game industry.

It was my pleasure to hear that a large number of qualified products had been selected to receive awards this year too. Let me congratulate those who have been awarded. Although many were regrettably left out of the prize list, I would also like to pay a tribute of praise to all nominated titles and creators since the competition between this year's titles was extremely close.

Let me express my gratitude on this occasion to the voters of the CESA GAME AWARDS and the selection committee members chaired by Dr. Yoro. I also appreciate the help of representatives present today from the press and relevant industries, and all others who have supported the game industry and contributed to the success of today's CESA GAME AWARDS Ceremony.

Finally, I wish to thank you all for your generous assistance and ask for your continued cooperation and support for the development of the CESA GAME AWARDS. Thank you.

- GAME AWARDS INDIES - -

- The new category "GAME AWARDS INDIES" is managed in cooperation with the Digital Content Association of Japan and financially supported by the cycle-race public fund. The purpose of this competition category is to help discover relatively unknown games of exceptional quality and talented game creators by impartially judging freely expressed works. This category has been created with the aim of establishing a foundation for content design and development and at the same time contributing to the promotion of a supportive and beneficial game culture.

Creators (both professional and amateur) of a number of pre-manufactured original games were invited to enter their products in the competition. During a first-stage evaluation session, all entered products were examined by professional game creators. The best of these games were then nominated for awards. Following this, the nominated titles were voted for by CESA members at the site of the TOKYO GAME SHOW. Final judgments were made by the selection committee to determine this year's winners.

Award for Excellence

MANNEKENPIS / Mr. Masatsugu Onuma

I first proposed my plan for this game to business corporations a decade ago, but they weren't able to fully understand exactly what my concept was.
Concepts I have always seem to be viewed as too unique, so I have to complete a final product to make others appreciate what I have in mind.
Initially, I did not intend to make this game. But, since unique games are becoming more and more in demand by the game industry and game users, I thought it was time for me to make the game and introduce it to the public.
I am much honored to receive this Award for Excellence. Thank you.

Grand Prize

BURGER MAKER/ Mr. Dai Ikushima

I currently conduct a programming class at a vocational school, where I give my students an assignment to make a game. During their project period, I was asked by a student if I had a good idea for him to use to make an interesting game. So I said, "How about making game where you have to make different types of hamburgers from a menu by combining different hamburger parts and ingredients?" Because the student didn't accept the idea well, I decided to make it by myself. This was the beginning of the story.
The menu includes ten kinds of hamburgers. Because too many ingredients, like lettuce, would ruin the game, the challenge to me was to make ten kinds of hamburgers from a limited number of ingredients. I visited the websites of fast-food restaurants to study their menus and also CM libraries to get ideas. Thank you.
