Reason for the Game Designers Award

A girl student with the ability to rewind time is a heroine of “Life is Strange.” She can rewind only a short time while staying in the same place. The true value of this work is to allow a player to alter the choices he/she made. The player can try to find a better solution by making another selection with knowledge of the past and experience.

The time rewind is a favorite of computer games. It is often used in race games, too. But this is the first time for an adventure game to use the time rewind. Also its production of many choices was highly evaluated and the game won the award.

Work Introdution


Life Is Strange is an adventure game whose story is changed according to the player's selection. A leading character is Max, who learns photographs at a high school in a country town, Oregon. She suddenly got an ability to rewind time. With her best friend Chloe, who met her again after 5 years, she started to investigate the disappearance of Rachel Amber, a girl student.
The player operates Max, who leads her school life at Blackwell Academy, a boarding high school. Using her ability, the player can rewind time at favorite timing. If Max redoes remarks and actions several times, it seems she can build better human relationship at and out of school and avoid physical risks. However, selections, which look good now, may not bring good results in the future...

We devoted all of our passions to this work, and it was accepted by users all over the world and won awards. We used to believe nothing would make us happier... until we heard a notice that we won “Game Designers Award!”
Many staffs in our studio were influenced by Japanese video games and joined the industry. Even now, we are always surprised at the creativity of Japanese works. This time, reversely, our work's creativity is evaluated by Japanese. We are very pleased.

“Life Is Strange” is a new type of adventure game whose story is changed according to the player's selection as well as Max's ability to rewind time let her go back to the past and make selection again.
The game is just a little bit different from conventional adventures: it offers unique graphics like oil paintings, BGM mainly consisting of Indie Forks, the world view created by film-like camera works, and remarks of characters, which do not sound like games, Why not have this unique experience?
